Follow The White Rabbit
Where to begin with The Matrix??? Well believe it or not The Matrix was actually the first DVD I picked out when I purchased my first DVD player. I had a VHS collection of many films and before the value tanked on them I sold them to a video store and decided to take the money I made and purchase the new technology.
I went to Circuit City and picked out my top of the line DVD player and of course I needed at least one movie to go home with so I grabbed this film that I had heard a great deal about but had not seen. This turned out to be The Matrix.
Here was the confusing part. I had this new technology, the state of the art DVD......So when I watched this film I couldn't figure out if the movie was that cool or if it was the player. I was completely blown away....OF COURSE.
I could not get over this movie, in the first 10 minutes you see the ground breaking "bullet-time" effects that now has set the standard for action movies and even some video games. I always have enjoyed science fiction films but the Wachowski brothers really gave the genre a new twist and ultimately brought the industry in general to higher standards. The story was incredibly original, the cast was fantastic, and the special effects are an 11 out of 10.
The idea that we are actually living in a computer program really gets you into the movie. The action sequences are outstanding, more then enough but not to overboard like some of the late 1990's and early 2000 James Bond flicks. The cast is another big part of this movie, you really fall in love with each and every character but still hate the villains with a passion. That is something that many action - sci/fi pictures lack, but with the combination of all the memorable aspects that this picture brings you it is for sure a landmark in film history.
I can watch this film over and over.....As my first DVD I watched EVERY possible special feature and commentary available on the disc and I did not have to purchase another one for at least a month because I was so entertained with every layer that this film had to offer.
