MOVIE SCI-FI TAKES A GIANT STEP INTO THE UNKNOWN
Favorite Movie Quote: "Buckle up your seatbelt, Dorothy. You're going Bye-Bye."
I certainly can't argue, or complain (and I won't), about the absolute visual excellence of THE MATRIX. It wouldn't make any sense to even try.
But when it comes to the story (which I found to be far too long) - THE MATRIX is, most definitely, open to some reasonable argument and dissection.
For example -
In regards to the beliefs and decisions made by The Legendary Morpheus - It totaly baffled me that Morpheus never even once suspected that The Oracle was, in fact, nothing more than just another program from the Machine Room. Did he really think that she was, in actuality, a 'real', bona-fide Oracle? When you seriously consider the fact that Morpheus knew a great deal more, than most, about the workings of The Matrix, his gullibility toward The Oracle, and her blatherings, was truly unbelievable. All of The Oracle's very questionable fortune-tellings/predictions were taken by Morpheus at literal face value. He never even bothered to thoroughly investigate who, or what, she really was.
Yet, on the other hand, Morpheus invested an incredible amount of time and effort to check out Neo before he went ahead and sought him out. He did everything that was absolutely neccessary before he was completely satisfied that Neo was, in fact, 'The One'.
The screwy thing about all of this is - Neo was a real person, and The Oracle was not. A baby could've figured that much out. But because of Morpheus's asinine stubbornness he put every one of his crew members and their potential safety into jeopardy. He allowed himself to be lead around by the nose, all because of The Oracle's ambiguous utterances.
Of course, as the story went, all that The Oracle turned out to be was just another form of control. And Morpheus never saw this. And nobody from his unthinking crew ever approached, or dared to question, him about this Oracle, either. Yet, it's incredible to think that Morpheus's whole mission (this mission that he was willing to die for) was based on fulfilling the prophecy of a program from the Machine Room. How absolutely ludicrous.
This is the thing that strikes me as a totally inane aspect of THE MATRIX's story.
I mean, for a group of really scared people (like Morpheus and his crew) who were constantly running for their lives (from Sentinels and Agents) in and outside of The Matrix, this seemed awfully naive, to say the least, and downright idiotic on their part not to have demanded that a full credit check and audit be done, pronto, on The Oracle.
And, yeah, OK, The Oracle never did do them any wrong. But, all the same, she was not one of them. How could she have ever been completely trusted not to double-cross them?
Remember - The Matrix was chock full of glitches.
