Lethal Weapon 4 is not the best in the series, but it is my favorite movie of all four. The final film in the series has more action, more humor and comes out as a cooler film to watch. Right off the bat we get two high speed action scenes which contain many explosions and such. The movie begins with Riggs and Murtaugh arriving to a call which contains a man covered in armor and fire resistant suits. He walks around and and begins burning up all these buildings and shooting them up with an assault rifle. Right off the bat we get explosions and a shootout between cops and this man. After the conclusion of this scene, the famous Joe Pesci returns as Leo, as Leo, Riggs and Murtaugh are on Murtaugh's boat, an oil rig passes by them. The Chinese men begin shooting at them and again we get more explosions, some violence and everything else. The plot begins to widen as we find out that Chinese refugees are being smuggled into America.
Here we get introduced to the newer character of Detective Lee Butters played by Chris Rock. Now we have Joe Pesci and Chris Rock as some comedy relief buddies. We find out how serious Butters is about his job and soon learn that he majored in Psychology before joining the force. Mel Gibson and Danny Glover are even better together as the characters get a little bit more personal and they come together closer. Joe Pesci is funnier then ever as he works as a PI now and some of the cases he talks about are very funny to hear and his performance helps this out a lot. Chris Rock is funny and basically makes a lot of funny points and great one liners.
Soon we get to know two characters on the opposite side of the law when we introduce Wah Sing Ku played by Jet Li, and Uncle Benny played by Kim Chan. Uncle Benny is the man basically responsible for smuggling in all these people which were found plus the group of people Martaugh took in to his home. Benny doesnt appreciate the police until the laughing gas scene which was very funny. Wah Sing Ku is the straight faced character played ever so famously by Jet Li. Jet Li is a bad ass but soon meets his doom after a fight with Martaugh.
We have a new screenwriter as Channing Gibson takes over the screenwriting role. We have a lot more cursing and some faster paced conversations and overall its a little bit more action then story. I like the fact that there is more action and dont get me wrong, it looks good, but the storylines of the first three were really good. We get more characters and then we get both Rigg's girlfriend Lorna pregnant and Roger's daughter pregnant, Butter's the father. So we do get a lot more humor but there is a lot of character stuff in between. Murtaugh is constantyl trying to help Rigg's with questions he has about babies and everything.
Lethal Weapon 4 is faster paced, action packed and is fun from beginning to end. Though not the best of the series, its my favorite. A fun movie.
