A decent sequel
Between John Carpenter's original and H20 (technically part 7 of the series) several embarrassingly bad sequels were made. In a bold move that ultimately saved H20 from the same fate, director Steve Miner choose to abandon the plot of the previous three films, instead creating a trilogy out of the Laurie Strode story arc from the original two films.
If only these three films were made, Halloween could have ended on a high note. H20 manages to capture the same eerie suspenseful presence as the first two films, and Jamie Lee Curtis' return to the character that launched her career is welcome. H20 is rare horror film with strong character development, even with a lackluster performance from Josh Hartnett. Opting to build a sense of tension instead of using gore to shock, H20 stands strong in the genre where many films fall by the wayside. But fear not, there is still plenty of gore for the modern horror fan.
