Movie Review by Joe October 9th, 2006

It must be a rite of passage...every actor or actress has to star in at least one horror movie. A la Jamie Lee Curtis, Vivian Leigh, Denise Richards, David Boreanaz, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Neve Campbell, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Frankie Munitz, Freddie Prince Jr., Drew Barrymore...
Now, thanks to The Faculty, we can now add Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Elijah Wood, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Piper Laurie, Usher, and Jon Stewart.
The movie has more of a sci-fi feel than a horror movie feel. Aliens are taking over the world, starting with a small high school in the middle of nowhere, Ohio (even though I am from Ohio, there are places where I feel aliens could begin world invasion and no one would know it).
It starts off with the faculty, as one-by-one they are being infested with aliens, inclusing hot nurse Rosa (Hayek), football coach Joe Willis (Robert Patrick), and science professor Furlong (Jon Stewart).
Six teenagers, the stereotypes of American high school civilization, band together to stop this incoming evil. The stereotypes are as follows:
Brooding bad boy yet wickedly intelligent Zeke (Hartnett);
Head cheerleader and newspaper editor Delilah (Brewster);
Head quarterback dating head cheerleader Stan (Shawn Hatosy);
Rejected goth-girl Stokes (DuVall);
Nerdy photographer who wants head cheerleader Casey (Wood);
Shy new girl from the south Marybeth (Laura Harris)
So, of course, with six people, you expect at least one of two of them to be undercover aliens, to which you would be right. And you would also expect that not all of them would survive, and once again you would be correct.
And in the end everyone learns a valuable lesson...just because Usher is on the cover of the movie doesn't mean he's in it a lot (in fact, he's barely seen).
Zeke: This where I get my equipment.
Marybeth: You borrow it from science labs?
Zeke: I like to think of it as stealing actually.

| This is hokey as hell but it's equally as fun. Plus I get to have two of my favorite (practically)no-name actors hit it off as well. (DuVal and Hatosy.) |
