Movie Review by B Movie Ben
May 23rd, 2007

If you dance with the devil, the devil don't chang

I watched this dark and disturbing film the other night. I had seen it before and wanted to revisit it. I would only recommend it for the very mature as it delves into a subject that many would not want to know even exists.

Nicolas cage plays a private investigator that is sent to investigate what is reportedly a "snuff" film that was found in the safe of a wealthy individual. He creeps deeper and deeper into the porn industry. We are not talking the sweet stuff that you find in your local video store, but the stuff that is out there for those who have very weird tastes.

He has Joaquin Phoenix as his guide and, after running into James Gandolfini, he ends up back in New York where he runs into Peter Stormare and Chris Bauer and Anthony Heald. This is not a place where one would want to be.

Catherine Keener plays his wife, but we don't see much of her. The story is about the fact that there are people who can't be satisfied by even the most perverse stuff out there, and they pay to have even more perverse films made. Why? Because they can says Heald.

It's a world you probably would rather that you didn't know exists.
