Movie Review by Zara

Spoiler: The Boat Sinks!

I'll tell you what bugs me most about this movie: the backstory.

James Cameron in his quest to see his dream come to life managed to spend more money on a piece of fluff than what most third world countries get to spend on their citizens. He screwed around on his wife with Suzi Amis, one of the "stars" of the movie and called Kate Winslet "Kate Weigh-a-lot" to her face when she didn't fit into the size 0 costume that had been made for the character before the actress was professionally sized.

Sorry, I can't feel very romantic knowing that kind of info.

Of course, I can't feel very romantic about a movie where the poor people look like they walked out of the "Derelict" fashion show from ZOOLANDER. I can't get behind a movie that drags for stretches at a time and doesn't even have decent dialogue to keep the movie afloat until the boat sinks.

It's so... phony. It feels like it's been written and directed by a man who assumes he understands what love is and quite clearly has no clue.

Argh. I really don't want to waste any more effort explaining that and how I hate this movie. Suffice it to say, I do. Men, take note: not all women like this crap.

There's not much point discussing this; it seems clear that you are certain of your position. As someone that wants to make a living as a filmmaker one day, I simply cannot disregard the highest grossing film of all time that was number one at the box office for several months.

What is your explanation for its success?

Women are stupid and the special effects and hype for the movie at the time were astronomical.

I admit it I saw this movie in the cinema's when it came out and I remember it being ass numbingly long, credit where credit is due the effects and props where very good. Everything else however was cheezy as hell....but we must not forget the classic scene that I an maybe a few others have felt the urge to act out...i.e. the hand slapped dramatically on steamy car window (you get the best reaction when parked in a pottery barn car park) and the classic line " I'm the king of the world" which I'm sure every drunken frat boy has shouted at some point. Aside from sh*te dialog the most diabolical thing that came from this movie was Celine F'ing Dion.

Man, she's the one thing that I'll never forgive the Canadians for. Even Degrassi can't save them from handing over that bird.

Hey, the effects are tremendous. But do effects make a movie Oscar worthy? Hell no. Why do you think the movie won best picture and best director but wasn't even nominated for script? Hellooooo.

I would liken this movie winning an Oscar to PEARL HARBOR winning an Oscar. Or ARMAGEDDON. Both of those movies had great effects. However, they were both sh*te... was you say. :)

Its interesting that you would bash the most profitable movie in history, this film made $1,845,034,188 worldwide.........It must be the cool thing to do if your a true movie lover to hate the one movie that the rest of the world loved. Also I realize that you did not use the word "hate" in your review but one star to me = HATE.

First off.... "you'RE." As in the contraction of "you are."

Actually, hate isn't as bad as what this movie inspires in me: indifference.

It took two normally good actors, a handful of semi-good actors and had them either drowning in sentimental crappy lines or drowning in ice cold water. I fail to see why this should be considered a great movie.

And as a point of reference? Just because people go to a movie in droves doesn't make it any good. It just proves how stupid and gullible people can be.

The reason why people liked this film was not for the crappy love story, its because the Titanic is one of the most popular history and discovery subjects ever. People are still fascinated with this ship and the fate of the passengers and crew. James Cameron actually went and viewed the titanic under water before making the film, and did years of research to get it as close to history as possible. Also with $200,000,000 he was able to take special effects to a new level.
Stupid and gullible has nothing to do with why people went and viewed this film. This film attracks everyone from history buffs, romance queens, movie geeks, etc....The Titanic itself as a story has held up for close to 100 years, this movie was not 100% accurate but it was close enough to get respect from all variations of people.
Once again I still think the reason you hate it is because its so popular.....which I can relate to I tend to not like stuff that the rest of the world does......I mean I enjoyed Pluto Nash and I only know of one other person that likes it.......

I honestly didn't like the movie. I've been cornered with the "you hate it because it's popular" argument before. There's not much more that I can say other than to simply disagree. The movie irritated me. The amount of money that I believe they wasted annoys me.

I'm one of those people who would prefer to see the real thing and not the movie version where E! has already shown me that it was filmed in a huge tank of water. I prefer the National Geographic specials where you can see images of the real Titanic at the bottom of the ocean.

If there are history buffs that liked this movie, I feel sorry for them. Without getting into movie/history geek territory, there are so many erroneous discrepencies within the film that a reputable history buff sees it for the sham that it is.
