Movie Review by Tim
January 28th, 2008

Not Travolta's best work by far.

Favorite Movie Quote: "He's poked his pecker in some sorry trash bins."

It surprises me sometimes how a film from 1997 starring John Travolta has never made it before my eyes. I always thinks its strange that as many movies as I watch there is still so many that I have not seen.

I was interested in this for a couple of reasons. Travolta, the plot revolving around politics and Billy Bob Thorton. What I found was that Thorton's character was kind of annoying, Travolta's accent was ridiculously bad and the plot was just kind of boring. I like watching democrats and republicans battle it out when its about time for a new president. I like the scandals that come about and surprise you because you thought this wealthy white man was as clean as a whistle. Then it turns out that he has been having affairs, breaking laws and doing everything that common folk do.

I would go as far as to say that none of the cast was great, all gave DECENT performances. I liked seeing Paul Guilfoyle....didn't know who he was but about an hour into the film I realized that he was in Random Heats which is a guilty pleasure of mine.

I think the mixture of genre was not right for this film. Its too much of a drama but not dramatic enough if that makes any sense. They either needed to add some action in it or better yet some comedy. It has an R rating, why I couldn't tell you. The "f" word is used a few times but I was shocked that this wasn't a PG-13 movie.

I read that Bill Clinton really enjoyed this film and I think the character was kind of written like Clinton and Clinton's past was incorporated into the script. It was not a complete waste but I would not want to ever watch it again.
