Original is always better
In the US this film's only existence is that of being the original film of which Vanilla Sky is remake of. As in about 99% of the cases, the original is better. Cameron Crowe and Tom Cruise took virtually the exact same idea, but made it more of movie about romance. Open Your Eyes is very much a thriller. It's dark and haunting. The story is not of "love lost" as in Sky. Eyes is more of a living a nightmare, literally. Eduardo Noriega is far more tortured than Cruise was ever able to portray and Penelope Cruz is a million times more enchanting in the role she repeated for Vanilla Sky. Open Your Eyes is simply, twisted. I loved every minute of it. Much better than the remake.
