F*ck you, Amazon description writer
I don't normally read descriptions of movies, especially the ones that we have on this site that were edited in by the site's previous owners. The descriptions are far too often commentary on the movie and not just an explanation of the film itself.
Saying that this is a movie for only the die-hard Bill Murray fans to own sells the movie short. Much like I have from the time that it was released. Since it came out right after Murray disappointed me with LARGER THAN LIFE (a movie that I unfortunately paid to see in the theater) and considering that it was cursed with a PG rating, I steered clear of it.
I don't consider myself to be a die-hard fan of Murray, but let's call an apple a f*cking apple, shall we? He's a comedic legend, much like most of the original SNL players are . People have just chosen to try and forget the contributions that they made to television and movies because of the onslaught of half-ass performers who were inspired by them.
This movie bored the pants off my 6 year old, the normal target demographic for the PG rating. That's because the humour is quiet, suggested and adult. That's not to say that it's not insanely silly. But just because something is silly doesn't mean that it has to be unintelligent in any way. The concept in the movie (mistaken identity) is extremely simple. It is in the way that the actors pull it off that makes it so damn entertaining.
My main gripe with the film is that when I wasn't laughing out loud, I was waiting for the next funny bit to come along and make me laugh again. There isn't anything all that engaging in the story, you're simply waiting for the next moment of hilarity centered on Murray not being who everyone thinks he is and Murray believing everyone to be someone else.
I really am feeling bad about prejudging movies lately. First SURF'S UP isn't a steaming trashcan filled with poo, and now this. But that still doesn't mean that I'm ever going to like Roth, Paul.

| I completely agree that he is a legend. Ghostbusters is still entertaining to me after approximately 525 viewings due to Venkman alone (ok, and maybe the love affair between Rick Moranis and Annie Potts). I will also be a huge dork and say how much I adore Stripes, Caddyshack, Scrooged, Groundhog's Day, What About Bob? (bad, I know), Kingpin....ok, maybe I'm one of those die-hard fans....I also really enjoyed Broken Flowers, but not so much Lost in Translation. Guess I've gotta queue up this one. |

I'm not as much of a fan of the newer stuff, but I can't deny the power of his gift for comedy.
