Weak for Q, but not bad

Quentin Tarantino has fully directed 4 movies(Kill Bill is one movie and Grindhouse was 50%) . All four are good movies, if not great. I guess one has to be the weak link. I guess the biggest difference between Dogs, Pulp, Kill Bill and Jackie Brown is that Dogs, Pulp and Kill Bill are anything but conventional. Each film is an adventure into originality. Jackie Brown has the original Q feeling, but it's simply a movie that's built for it's twist. By no means is that bad, but it's conventional. Conventional isn't where Tarantino truly shines.

As for the actual movie, Pam Grier is decent as the title character. No flaws in her performance, but rather in her casting. It's a great throw back to the 70's, but the character needed to be sexy. I just don't see it from her. The performance to watch is from Samuel L. Jackson. He's completely devlish. He owns every scene in which he's in. That's saying a lot considering he spends a lot of his screen time next to Robert De Niro. The supporting cast is enjoyable as well. In particular, Michael Keaton is hilarious as the goofy ATF agent and Bridget Fonda is by far the hottest I've ever seen her. Good movie, but it won't blow you away.

I agree with you i thought Pam Grier was not the right person for that role but I still really enjoy the film. Bridget Fonda looks great in the film especially during her scene with Deniro....

I think it's the only movie I've seen her in that I wasn't thinking about Henry Fonda while watching it.

Well it was adapted from a book which doesn't give it the full Quentin feeling, but I think it deserves at least 4 stars... That's just my opinion though...
:D
