Bad, but watch it anyway

This is an odd, odd, odd movie. I don't even know how to define exactly what it is or what it's about. It could be considered a character study, but there is so much that needs to be inferred about the lead character that you're fighting to find info to study. It could be a period drama, but the period seems off with such popular '90's icons as Ben Affleck and Rose McGowan in it. (She was the main reason why I rented it.)

The story of a young man who has an oppressive and domineering mother, Jeremy Davies manages to wince and whine through his role as Sonny. You can't relate to him, you can't feel sorry for him... hell - you can't even hate the guy. He's one of those sad suckers that you just try to avoid in life.

The movie is odd in a bad way and yet I recommend watching it just for that reason. Perhaps you might be able to better explain to me what was going on. I'd like to know if I'm missing something here, but I'm one of the only people I've ever known who's actually seen this movie.

I've seen it, but all I remember is that Rose got nekkid and it was odd watching a movie where Ben Affleck was the best actor.
