Event Horizon (1997)

I have been to hell and back, literally.
Favorite Movie Quote: "Your ship killed its crew."
It also killed this movie (just kidding, but not really.) This was not a great movie and it was not a terrible movie. It was an average movie. I could spit out some malicious comment like, "I liked this movie. I liked it the first two times I saw when it place under water and was called LEVIATHEN or DEEP STAR SIX", but that is just counterproductive (oops, I guess I did it anyway.) Besides being an easy comment to make, it is inaccurate. I guess it is just the vibe I get from this movie that reminds me of the abovementioned undersea horror movies. EVENT HORRIZON is much more mentally thrilling. It is a little slow paced for my tastes, but I see how that adds to the suspense.
The experimental starship "Event Horizon" was sent out in 2040 to test it faster-than-light drive. On its maiden voyage it disappeared, only to return without its crew years later. After investigating, the crew of the ship Lewis and Clark must piece together what evil now lies within the "Event Horizon."
Laurence Fishburne as Capt. Miller, Sam Neill as Dr. William Weir, Medical Technician Kathleen Quinlan Peters, Joely Richardson as Lt. Starck, Executive Officer and Jack Noseworthy as Justin, Engineer were all fair in their respective performances, but nothing that was any more steller than roles each have in the past.
The bottom line is that this was a good thriller if you have the time and desire to see what is going to happen. I would have liked to see a little more biblical accuracy when relating to hell. This seemed more an abstract of an evil dimension, not specifically hell.
