Movie Review by Chris
June 18th, 2008

Cameron Poe is a highly decorated military officer who is sent to prison because of killing a man while defending his wife. Seven years later, he is granted a parole. He is put on a plane with many other convicts. Everything looks smooth until one of the convicts, Cyrus "The Virus" Grissom breaks out of his restraints and takes control of the plane. The D.E.A quickly learns of the event and plans on shooting the plane down, but U.S. Marshall Vince Larkin sees Poe as an ally and tries to work with him before his superiors shoot down the plane.

Con Air is an action packed film from director Simon West starring Nicolas Cage and John Cusack. So Con Air was made in 1997 and it does a really good job with combining humor and action to make 2 hours of fun. Ok so Nicolas Cage's performance is not as good here as intended and maybe some scenes are a little exaggerated and fake, but for this type of action film, we must step past these facts and have a good time with the all around product of the film.

Nicolas Cage is an amazing actor who really has some great films on his list of been done. In Con Air though, he puts on a really goofy southern accent which really annoyed me and after a while, felt was boring and tiring. John Cusack doesnt have a huge role here, but its good for what it is. He kind of becomes the helper of the movie in the final attack of the film. John Malkovich is my favorite actor in the entire movie, and I really enjoyed the fact that most of the best lines in the film were his.

The action of Con Air is exciting and in your face. From the beginning fight to the final airplane crash and fight which takes place in Las Vegas, the action is here and it never tries to hard to impress. While the film is violent and brutal, some of the stunts and such were a little bit taken too far. There is a scene where they tie the plane to the ground and when they take off, the hook gets shot off and hooks onto a Stingray and pulls the car up with the plane. This is a funny little stunt which the crew deserves some credit for.

The script for the movie was both bad and good, combining humor with very little seriousness. It does do a good job with action scenes and such but never really pushes it.

So Con Air is a terrific movie which deserves more respect then it got. 4 Stars of 5.
