Action-packed, suspenseful, excellent acting, and lots of things blowing up. What more could a guy ask for in a movie?
Director Simon West brought Con Air to theaters back in 1997 (wow, that's almost 10 years ago now...). The premise was an interesting, albeit a highly implausable one. A group of the worst of the worst in prison are on a plane heading to a different, more fortified prison, when the prisoners on the plane take over the plane (all it needs is snakes...oh nevermind).
Former army man and now family man Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) has been in prison for eight years for killing a man while in a drunken state to protect his wife Tricia (Monica Potter). Now, eight years later, he is about to be parolled and will see his daughter for the first time. All is looking well for Poe, so of course things don't go as well as planned. He's on the plane with the hardened felons, when the plane is taken over, thanks to ringleader Cyrus 'The Virus' Grissom (John Malkovich) and Nathan 'Diamond Dog' Jones (Ving Rhames).
Meanwhile, as this is happening in the air, on the ground people are becoming suspicious, especially US Marshal Vince Larkin (John Cusack), who discovers early on what is happening. He does everything in his power to try to stop the plane, and Poe does everything he can on the plane to make sure he gets home to his family.
Filled with explosions, gunfights, regular fights, suspense and even a body falling from the plane, landing on an unsuspecting couples' car, Con Air has the makings for an excellent action movie. It even has Dave Chappelle for comedic relief!
Local cop: I got a problem with a corpse.
Larkin: Yeah?
Local cop: Yeah, fell from the sky. I don't think he's an astronaut.
