That whole good on the phone thing

Many of my male friends have huge hard-ons for Janeane Garofalo, so it was hard for me to understand why she was cast as the frumpy chick that the guys always overlook. Sure, she's an unconventional beauty, but she's still a beauty. And the fact that she has a sharp and fast wit and a smart mind is enough to turn average looks into something special.

That's the point that this movie eventually made. However, I feel that it's just as important to point out how nice of a job it did defending the pretty women of this world. Uma Thurman is also an unconventional beauty who looks good when she's filmed right. Playing the tall, thin and blonde friend who doesn't put a great deal of intellectual restraint on men is irresistible at times, but there's also a heart there. She isn't a mean or dumb sh*t just because she's pretty. And just because she's not book smart doesn't mean that she doesn't know people.

I grew up with very few female friends over the years. I hated how women were always competitive over sh*t that wasn't important (like boyfriends). sh*t that you really couldn't prove who won and who lost. The few girlfriends that I DID have were always exceptionally pretty or had great bodies. I refused to not be friends with them simply because they looked better than me. And even though it would sting when guys would run across the street to talk to them, I knew it wasn't their fault. In fact, most of the best female friends that I've had have been exceptionally beautiful. They've been kind, loyal, honest and giving to me. And not once did they try to back stab me like the other more average looking female friends I had did.

So, long story short, while I appreciate the tale that is getting told about Garofalo's character, I also am grateful that someone managed to paint a pretty woman in the light that she deserved to get painted in.

Funny that I never saw this movie, but it sounds funny. I'll have to give it a try.
