Movie Review by Lisa
February 7th, 2007

Oh Danny Boy.....le

Nothing is more satisfying than seeing one of your favorite books done justice on the big screen. Danny Boyle and John Hodge show the movie industry how it's done with the stellar adaptation of Irvine Welsh's book "Trainspotting".

Through the eyes of Mark Renton (Ewan McGregor) we see the haphazard lifestyle of a heroin addict, the scams, the stealing and the battle to get clean. Set in Edinburgh the film follows Renton and his 4 friends, Sick Boy (Johnny Lee Miller), Spud (Ewen Bremer) and Begbie the psycho (Robert Carlyle) through the grimy junky sub culture.

This was Danny Boyle's second outing and for me it will always remain his best. Robert Carlyle was outstanding as Begbie and as for Ewan McGregor his role as Renton propelled his career great hights and rightly so.

My favorite scene on the movie is when Renton OD's the way it was shot was just perfect.

And let us not forget one of the best monologues in film.

Choose life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a f*cking big television, Choose washing machines, cars, compact disc players, and electrical tin openers. Choose good health, low cholesterol and dental insurance. Choose fixed- interest mortgage repayments. Choose a starter home. Choose your friends. Choose leisurewear and matching luggage. Choose a three-piece suite on hire purchase in a range of f*cking fabrics. Choose DIY and wondering who you are on a Sunday morning. Choose sitting on that couch watching mind-numbing sprit- crushing game shows, stuffing f*cking junk food into your mouth. Choose rotting away at the end of it all, pishing you last in a miserable home, nothing more than an embarrassment to the selfish, f*cked-up brats you have spawned to replace yourself. Choose your future. Choose life... But why would I want to do a thing like that?
