Movie Review by Zara
March 8th, 2007

And normally I despise Costner

I'm not a sports fan by a long shot. However, I will watch just about any sports movie that's been made. For me, I think it encapsulates the heart of a game, whether that's shortening down a football game and just showing close-up shots of glistening, dirty muscles on hot guys as AC/DC pumps loud in the background or managing to make one of the dullest sports on the planet interesting.

The movie follows a burn-out in the game of golf, a guy who is reduced to giving lessons to people as a means to continue on in his meager existence. When one of his students turns out to be a psychiatrist, he falls for her and at the same time wants her to "fix" him.

What I love about this movie is the ending. The meaning of the last scene where he shoots over and over and over again looking for the hole in one. Like Russo says, people never remember who came in second. Hell, people don't always remember who came in first. The people in life that stick out are those who took the chances, got a little wild in life and did what so many other people WISHED they could do.

And I love what that message represents. Get out of your box and f*cking TRY. You never know what hole in one you might accomplish.

Great review of a very enjoyable film. I took, am not a sports nut, but I love sports films and this is one of the best as it focuses on the characters more than the game.
