I normally don't do glurge movies..
Favorite Movie Quote: "Grace Winterbourne: How did I ever raise such a snob?"
I'm not a fan of glurgey feelgood movies. I am an unabashed Brendan Fraser addict, which is why I watched this one. It's now one of my favourite Cinderella stories. The characters are believable, the plot was both funny and touching, and hey, there's even a tango scene! Ricki Lake's transformation from Connie Doyle to Patricia Winterbourne through the movie was awesome. Shirley MacLaine's performance as the Dowager Winterbourne is terrific. She pulls off class without becoming a cliche.
It's predictable, but then again, it's a romantic comedy and I haven't met one that wasn't. The real love story in this movie isn't between Bill and Connie, but between the Winterbournes and the girl from the streets.
