Movie Review by Zara
April 5th, 2007

It's not about the wives

While I understand that the meaning behind the movie was to show that as you get older it doesn't make you more disposable as a woman and this was supposed to be a film of empowerment, I still just saw it as being far too stereotypical of what women are supposed to be. Just showing them at a different age than is most commonly shown on screen.

Personally, I got a bigger kick out of Sarah Jessica Parker as the pampered princess, slutty new girlfriend of one of former husbands. The laughs come mainly from her and not from the rest of the women who are supposed to be the leads. Even Marcia Gay Harden is funnier than the leads. The leads are simply there to be relatable martyrs.

Watch it again if you think I'm wrong. It was a popular movie with a strong following, but the next time you watch it, watch it without the preconceived notion that men deserve to have it "stuck to them."

I just can't get the ending out of my mind. Midler, Hawn & Keaton singing "You Don't Own Me" is a classic.
