PS- I had written this review on my old profile, this is my new one. Thank you.
Jerry hires two men to kidnap his wife so he can get his rich father in law to pay the ransom of $1 million. Once the ransom is paid the kidnappers will get $40,000 and Jerry gets the rest. That's the plan, but what happens is something totally different. Blood is shed when a cop and two innocent people are killed. Marge Gunderson is the Chief who investigates the murders. While Marge investigates, Jerry gets involved in deeper problems, ranging from financial troubles, to threats from the kidnappers.
The Coen Brothers together, make some of the best crime stories ever put into film. Theyre laterst movie to date, No Country For Old Men was a fantastic film which showed theyre true talents in the world of filmmaking. Now though, were going back 10 years to Fargo, one of their earlier accomplishments. Fargo combines dark comedy with a crime thriller and comes out in an amazing form. While every one of our characters are strange and funny in one way or another, the character's are portrayed well.
William H. Macy blew me away with the performance of Jerry. Now Jerry was the guy who had planned this whole entire hoax and practically messed it all up. I never doubted his talents in any of his movies, the thing is I just dont enjoy him that much as an actor. I think sometimes his performances come out funnier then they are meant to be and that sometimes you just cant take him serious as an actor. But in Fargo, he really lights up the screen, this shows that Fargo is his type of movie.
Then we have Steve Buscemi and Peter Stormare as the 2 kidnappers, one goofy and the other one crazy. Steve Buscemi comes out as sort of the chill out character of the film, as most of his lines come out funny and just the look of this guy, his face and how it moves just makes us want to laugh in the first place. On the other end, we have Peter's character who is violent and strange. He is the man responsible for all the killing that goes on in the movie. Hes just a weird guy who doesnt seem to know the difference between wrong and right because he just doesnt care.
Fargo is actually a very simple crime story. Its just about a man who hires someone to kdnap his wife, ask for ransom so he could get money, and give his wife back. As usual, it gets complicated as the father of his wife gets desperate to have his daughter back, blood begins to shed. This is one of the more violent Coen brothers films. As theyre are only about 2 moments where real bloodshed is seen, its the most violent of the films from them I have seen.
The Coen brothers are masters at creating simple suspense, as I like to call it. suspense where you ask questions like, why did the cop pull me over and will he catch up to the car so we wont get in trouble. About 70% of the movie had me thinking about what will happen by the end of this scene, so I guess the suspense really had me going in this film.
Fargo is a fantastic movie which blended suspense with an awesome crime tale. There is nothing wrong with this movie. Fantastic.
