Movie Review by Zara
November 5th, 2007

This was the flick

This was the movie that had me convinced that Russell Crowe was going to be a big star. I would say it was his thick-waisted stance where he shows off his naked rear, but it was more the hint of evil that lingered on his lips like the last puff of smoke from a fragrant cigarette.

The movie as a whole is a good little caper made back when we were supposed to fear our computers and not sign our entire lives away to them. Watching it in retrospect makes it seem silly, but when I saw it in the theater I was blown away. (Shamefully, I was probably equally impressed with THE LAWNMOWER MAN.)

But I like watching this movie now, dated as it is, so that it can remind me of what Crowe and Washington were like before they reached that crescendo that actors of their particular caliber reach. I haven't gone to see a Crowe movie in the theater since GLADIATOR (you read me right) and a Washington one since... I believe it was REMEMBER THE TITANS.

Am I planning on going to see AMERICAN GANGSTER in the theater? Honestly... do I need to?

This is one Denzel movie that I have never sat down and watched only because everyone I know that has seen it said it was pretty bad.

I might give it a shot now.
