Movie Review by Zara
November 10th, 2007

There's a better movie that was released later and somewhat inspired by this movie. It's called PRISCILLA, QUEEN OF THE DESERT, and if you're torn between that movie and this one, I'd go with that one.

The major problem with this movie is that while the filmmakers and studios were trying to get you to ooo and ahh over the fact that they were using two of the best known action/macho stars to play drag queens, they weren't really willing to take it all the way.

See, I'd prefer if they'd allowed one of the guys to kiss another male character or been something other than the sweet, helpful boys who want to be girls. I've known more than a few drag queens in my life and they DON'T usually relate well with their penis. They're in fact more feminine than most of the born-women women I know.

There are some great moments from Leguizamo who is clearly having a ball going all out for this role. But he was the one with the least to lose. Both Swayze and Snipes had to go back to their day jobs if the movie failed. And that is where this movie fails for me.

I think the reason I liked this movie so much was Leguizamo's kookie ass, but the appeal in it was to see Swayze and Snipes in drag and I thought it was funny (not funny ha ha) that they seemed more stuck up or something. One of my favorite movies...maybe I just like drag. I'll have to check out Priscilla...I've never heard of that one. Thanx. ;)

If you liked this movie, you'll LOVE Priscilla.

The problem here is both Snipes and Swayzes ability to act feminine at all. They loved the idea of their roles, but just didn't get how to pull it off where Lguizamo did rather well in his role. This was a bit of a running gag movie if you ask me, but then again some people just like seeing manly men in drag.
