Movie Review by Zara

I'll drink the water out of you

I was interested in seeing this film after reading an abbreviated version of the comic in my copies of Details magazine (I still miss the old Details, back when they were more like Maxim and less like GQ). Thrilled by the weird looking art and the concept that there could be a girl with a pet tank who did whatever she pleased (including dating a kangaroo looking dude), I convinced a group of friends of mine to pay to see the movie on the weekend it was released.

I think we represented the majority of the audience there that night, especially after a couple got up and walked out in the middle of it. All the while, I was practically rolling around on the floor giggling myself silly. I suppose I had the upper hand having seen the comic, since no one else got the humour of the flick.

There are some great people in this flick (including the movie debut of Naomi Watts - try to spot her without having to be told who she is) that help to buoy it above its strange story.

In fact... I don't know if the film can be appreciated if you haven't seen the comic. Frankly, I don't care. I liked the movie so much, I spent more money to buy its crazy soundtrack as well. (Ice-T's little rap is the pinnacle of my giggles.)

I've still never seen the comic and I didn't need to. This movie was hilarious on it's own. But, then I love dry, witty humor like that. It's one of those things where if you don't find this one funny, we probably don't have much to talk about.
