Strange but good

'Strange Days' is what you get when you take a fresh and interesting script written by James Cameron and in turn get the direction of one of the most underrated action directors in Katthryn Bigelow. The film is an engrossing thriller that ends in one of the most romantic ways I've ever seen a movie end.

'Strange Days' stars Ralph Fiennes as Leny Nero an ex-cop turned peddler of the stored memories of other people (this is sort of the futuristic version of ecstasy) One day you receives a disk of memories that recalls a brutal murder. The rest of the film is an attempt to unravel the mystery that is the murder.

Angela Basset gives a great turn as Mace and Juliette Lewis plays faith. Both women figure prominently in Leny's life and the mystery he's trying to solve.

This film works on just enough levels that it makes me wish Cameron would write more scripts and just let other people direct them.

The film as shot by Bigelow has just the right manic flow. Not to mention the beautiful shots at the end of the film. The last 5 minutes of this film I could watch over and over again.

I remember seeing this movie in the theater and being horrified at Lewis singing. Then she went and tried to actually construct a singing career. Egads. But I will admit that while strange (har har), this is at least attempting to be original and I have to give it credit for that.

I agree, I actually went to see this in the theatre....it was advertised like it was going to be a big summer hit but then it did not bring in big dollars so it was wrote off. I'm a Tom Sizemore freak so of course I like him in it but I especially like the on-screen chemistry between Fiennes and Bassett.
