Favorite Movie Quote: "There are some things a woman doesn't want other women to understand."

I watched the Val Lewton classic Isle of the Dead last night, and I have seen his other Boris Karloff classic, Bedlam. Now, I turn to his film with Simone Simon. They also did Curse of the Cat People two years later. This film renewed the careers of Lewton, Simon, and director Jacques Tourneur. With a $134,000 budget, they grossed $4 million in 1942. Lewton went on to make 10 horror classics that featured low budgets and were box office successes.

Now, you won't see blood and guts, no slashers here; it is sheer terror through light and shadow and sound.

Irena (Simon) feels that there is something evil in her. She won't even kiss her new husband (Kent Smith) for fear of stirring passions that could endanger him.

An exciting film.
