Yay for British people

I watched this movie when it was first released on VHS and was surprised. While it was advertised as being a movie about a British businessman who falls for an American girl, it's really more about the man and his learning how to care for his infant daughter.

I like British romantic comedies more than American ones. I like how the romance always seems to be an after thought to some other story that they have going on. The romance isn't the central focus even though you know that they're going to get around to it eventually.

Here we get to see a man learn to cope with the death of his wife, the new responsibilities of having a child and the burdens that come with meddling family members. We also get to watch Ian McKellen in a great role as a homeless man that the lead befriends.

While not a perfect film, this is still far better than most of the tripe that is released in the states.
