Movie Review by Zara

Weird, weird little flick

Sometimes people like indies for the wrong reasons. Sometimes an indie gets more cred simply because it was filmed cheaply, had a depressing story and one good performance by a character actor. This is one of those flicks.

I rented this movie when it came out based on numerous reviews I'd seen on the back pages of entertainment magazines, all telling me that it was overlooked and was a hidden masterpiece. What I discovered was a pathetic whining tale with no purpose to it. People don't care about losers for a reason - because in real life they're boring and they're, you guessed it! Losers. Whatever makes people think that they're more interesting if there's a movie that's been directed about them is beyond me.

Interesting sidenote: There was a much better movie about a similar weird character who becomes obsessed with an object of affection outside of his normal capacity. While it's far more fast paced and has a different storyline, it certainly took the basic mold and expanded on it in a much better way. I believe that movie was called SLINGBLADE.
