Movie Review by Zara

Simon Says... a lot of correct things

This movie is solidly good for two reasons: Zane is a hoot and Pinkett kicked ass before she married Will.

I never really did like the Crypt Keeper. Revolting in a way that wasn't appreciated like some disgusting things are in horror movies. The thing always just made me cringe like when you were in grade school and saw the school dork wad pick his nose and then eat his lunch. Blech.

I will say that the movie is sharply directed and quite effective in its gore and blood effects, especially considering that it was made 12 years ago (yes, CGI really IS that new, even the crappy stuff) and with a fairly pitiful budget for the standards that people might expect a mediocre horror movie to be pumped out at.

I'm a fan of Thomas Haden Church and his strange behaviours in almost all the roles that he's undertaken. This one is no exception. I've always loved that voice of his and with the long hair here, he's rather dishy even if he is playing the a**hole.

This is one that has a decent story as well and just enough oomph to get a rise out of just about any movie watcher. A good selection for your Halloween DVD evening. Plus it's available in the "Watch it Now" section of NetFlix as well.
