Crumb? He's Number one!!
Robert Crumb has been one of, if not THE number underground artist in the world for years. With characters like Eggs Ackely, Mr Natural, Whiteman and Fritz the Cat under his belt, he has influenced countless comic and comix artists the world wide over.
I have been a fan of Robert Crumb for years. While I wasn't old enough to have been a part of the drug set in the sixties, and to get a taste of his stuff while the 'culture' was alive, I became totally absorbed by his work in my teens in the 80s, and that became an addiction as my years have rolled on.
Imagine my joy when I heard about a documentary of his life.
This doco, directed by Terry Zwigoff (who also directed Bad Santa) is a snapshot at a point of Crumb's life where he and his family were preparing to move to France, and is touching and hilarious at the same time. Interviews with friends, ex-girlfiends, family and the man himself reveal a lonely man who was born in the wrong times, and has an extraordinary talent for art.
Great doco, especially for fans of Crumb's art.

| The documentary is great even if Crumb's art always would freak me out when I was a little kid. Very interesting even from the perspective of someone who has no clue who he is as well. But then again, I'm a documentary fan. |
