I could think of a thousand superlatives to laud this gem, but I think the best one is simply: brilliant. Abel Ferrara's fascinating direction and Nicholas St. John's profoundly philosophical script raise this high above the level of a good vampire movie, though it is also an excellent contribution to that genre. With an outstanding cast - including Lili Taylor, Christopher Walken and Annabella Sciorra - this is quite possibly the most underrated film of all time.
