Words cannot say how excited I am to know that this movie is a movie that I can review on.
Because it was HORRIBLE!
I still cannot believe Renee Zellweger & Matthew McConaughey both appeared in this movie. I have one question about that, but I will wait till the end.
Whereas I have a certain respect for the Chainsaw Massacre series, this one was absolutely horrendous. Leatherface (Robert Jacks), is less of a puppy dog than he is a maniacal killer in all the previous other versions, although they did something that makes it closer to the actual events the movie is based from. The real killer killed women because he wanted their bodies because he wanted to be a woman, and Leatherface wore the skin of the women he killed...actually, I don't think he killed anyone in this movie...
Anyway, we have Zellweger as shy quiet Jenny, the main character who gets caught by Leatherface and his family: psycho Vilmer (McConaughey), his girlfriend Darla (Tonie Perensky) and strange W.E. (Joe Stevens).
There really wasn't any suspenseful, frightening scenes. Nor were there any real gory scenes. There was just a lot of screaming, terrible acting, and just utterly pointless dialogue.
Would've been better to make cardboard cutouts and have them move around on screen. At least the annoying voices wouldn't be so annoying.
So back to my question: I wonder if Renee Zellweger & Matthew McConaughey ever acknowledge they ever did this film, or if they say it was their evil twins?
Bud's Pizza Attendant: Uh, Miss, I think there's something in your trunk...
Darla: Oh that's just somebody I got tied up back there.

I watched this only because I like to go back and look through actors' careers and what they made before they were famous and since this one was a double whammy, it seemed the obvious choice.
However, it doesn't contain any of the punch that the former movies did and comes off as a joke with McConaughey preening as if he knew that he'd be a sex symbol in the future and didn't want to come off too gross.
I'm with you. This is awful. |
