Abba-licious!

The story of a fat and shlumpy girl from a small town in Australia comes to life by the power of Collette's desire for it to. The actress gained weight for this role and dives into it unabashedly, proving instantly why she was meant for the silver screen.

Muriel is made fun of by the other girls she so desperately wants to fit in with. Saddled with a philandering and devious politician father and a gullible housewife mother, Muriel feels trapped by her family and escapes into the world of Abba.

When she convinces her mother to write her a blank check and then takes the money to follow those girls who didn't like her on a cruise ship she runs into another outcast from her town. Outspoken Rhonda teaches Muriel to speak up for herself and take pride in who she is. The two eventually move to Sydney together and become roommates.

MURIEL'S WEDDING is funny and fun, filled with accents that are hard for an American like me to understand at times and yet is completely clear in its message. We're all chasing after something we think we want. In the end, it's all about the journey that got us there and not the reward we were initially seeking.

I watched this again last night it just doesn't get old. This could have easily been another aussie film that got brushed under the carpet but Collette's performance catapulted this movie to cult status....she rocks.

I was gonna review it but you did such a bloody good job and I've got a killer hangover.
