Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie

Good Adaptation

I was about 11 when they filmed this movie in my hometown. I remember thinking how weird it was that there was all this ripped up Kleenex everywhere that was meant to look like snow, even though it was the middle of the summer. I lied to all my friends and told them that I spotted Winona Ryder...hey, it could have happened!

Anywho, I love this adaptation of one of my favorite books. It is an early feminist discourse on authorship and female bonding. Ryder is great as Jo March, her relationship with Christian Bale's Laurie is heartbreaking and great. She captures the intelligence and wit of Joe while also showing the deep flaws in her character.

Susan Sarandon is a good choice as Mrs. March, she is maternal and giving in a somewhat underwritten part.

Claire Danes breaks your heart, you fall in love with Trini Alvarado and Kirsten Dunst makes a remarkable debut as young Amy.

I love this film, it both takes me home and makes me wish I had sisters.
