ED'S NOT QUEER, BUT HE LIKES CASHMERE
Favorite Movie Quote: "Karloff isn't worthy of smelling my s-h-i-t!!"
HAIL TO THE QUEEN OF PINK CASHMERE SWEATERS!!!!..............
The movie ED WOOD is a hilarious, and, at times, heart-felt, tribute to that very same director, Ed Wood Jr., who has been unanimously voted, over and over again, 'Worst Movie Director Of All Time'. After watching this flick I find it hard to imagine any other movie director who is more deserving of such a fitting title as this. Ed Wood is almost in a class of his own.
Ed Wood was the guy who, literally, made 'Z-Grade Movie History'. Now, there's certainly a claim that not many movie-directors could (or would) boast about on their resumes. But you can bet that Ed Wood most suredly would. Had Ed Wood not been such a resourceful con-man he would've probably never achieved such an impressive niche in the world of lame movies. With such classic, but inept, offerings as PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE it's obvious that Wood's resourcefulness as a con-man was only succeeded by his incompetence as a film director.
Judging by the loopy characters that Ed Wood gathered around him I think that another title for this flick could've easily been THE MISFITS-2.
In his portrayal of Ed Wood I found JOHNNY DEPP to be in absolute top form. DEPP played a truly convincing heterosexual, cross-dresser like I've never seen before. In other words, DEPP looked like pure s-h-i-t in drag. I really got a big kick out of it when he'd step out all dolled-up in cashmere, with his blonde wig askew. Absolutely priceless. Personally, I think that JOHNNY DEPP should tackle comedy roles more often. He's certainly got a natural flair for it.
Another notable performance in ED WOOD is, of course, that of MARTIN LANDAU. His portrayal of the has-been film star, Bela Lugosi, who was now a hopeless junkie on his last legs, is both tragic and comical. The relationship between Wood and Lugosi was at times just like father and son. Yeah, a father and son from the farthest reaches of The Outer Limits, that is. Wood certainly had a great admiration for Lugosi. Some of the best and most hilarious lines in ED WOOD are given to LANDAU's character and MARTIN delivers them superbly.
Of course, without the exceptional directorial touches of TIM BURTON 'ED WOOD' would never have been the unique gem that it is. The use of glossy, black and white film, rather than color, gave ED WOOD the true feel of the 1950's. ED WOOD is BURTON's loving tribute to a long-gone director who's time has come for some much-deserved recognition as the worst of them all.

| I adore this film and this review was well worth reading. Another film in which Lisa Marie got a role in and shouldnt have because she was married to Tim Burton but oh well I can look past that. |

Since Lisa Marie makes such a voluptuous vamp she was an ideal piece of tasty decoration for this flick......Va-Voom!!
