'Dumb and Dumber' is certainly a very fair title, and accurately describes the movie's two main characters, best friends Harry and Lloyd (Daniels and Carrey), and the actual experience of watching the film itself, and the types of jokes that are used. I can only evaluate a comedy by how much it makes me laugh, and sadly, 'Dumb and Dumber' was often devoid of anything really funny, but then not every gag can be as successful as the one involving the dead parakeet and the blind boy who takes it as his pet. Harry seems to have a little more sense than Lloyd, but then that wouldn't take much. Both of them travel cross-country to track down Mary Swanson (Lauren Holly), the woman Lloyd falls in love with, and who incidentally leaves a piece of luggage at the airport, which Lloyd is determined to bring back to her. Daniels and Carrey make a great pair, and I was actually surprised to see Daniels in a role like this, he is usually much more serious, or at least not this outrageously stupid. Carrey, on the other hand, works his goofy magic, simultaneously charming and supremely obnoxious. Certainly not the best from the Farrelly Brothers, but far from their worst.

I went to see this in the theater with one of the low spot on the totem pole of intelligence boyfriends and I couldn't stand it and he was in stitches.
I thought maybe there would be an appeal that grew on it over the years.
There hasn't been. |
