Movie Review by Chris
October 30th, 2008

'Dumb and Dumber' is a classic in the comedy genre. Starring Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, the films is witty and features many unforgettable scenes. I just find it funny that the whole movie shows that two best friends, who are really dumb, can mess up everything so horribly. I did see the prequel which was released, Dumb and Dumberer, it was horrible, so I decided to check out the original and compare the two. Though there was some minor problems I had with the film, nothing to much to make me hate it at all. I loved it, almost every minute of it.

Lloyd Christmas (Jim Carrey) and Harry Dunn (Jeff Daniels) are two best friends. Lloyd is a limo driver who ends up meeting a beautiful girl named Mary (Lauren Holly). His friend Harry tames dogs and such, and he drives around in what is literally a "Shag Mobile". The complete truck is furnished as a giant dog. So when Lloyd notices that Mary dropped her suitcase at the airport, he runs in and picks it up, but is unable to find her. Little does he know that the suitcase belongs to someone she works with, and is full of money. Lloyd knows she is on her way to Aspen, so him and Harry team up and drive to Aspen to give the suitcase back, but everything that could go wrong does.

Both Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels seem to be extremely young here, though Carrey played a few roles including Ace in Ace Venture Pet Detective in the same year as the release of Dumb and Dumber. Lately he has been sacking in his roles and even his acting, recently playing in Bruce Almighty and The Number 23. He is certainly one of the strangest of the two friends, though he can be smart at times, Lloyd races people and does'nt think to highly of anything. He is really great though, as he constantly tries to impress Mary, he does smart things on accident. He basically does'nt think about anything and this is the reason why Mary can't seem to like him, because he's just so stupid.

Harry Dunn is a complete goof ball, and he drives around a van that is fabricated as a dog. After work he usually goes home and just drinks away until he falls asleep and has to go to work again. Harry is the definition of stupid, as Mary ends up accidentally falling for him, he has no idea what he's doing with anything. There is a scene where him and Mary go skiing, and he chucks a snowball at her face; followed by tackling her into the snow. He also gets his tongue stuck to a pole. This is the funniest I have ever seen Jeff Daniels, at this is a great point in his career. He seems to do a great job with more of his serious roles, but this was a film in which looks great on his fimography.

A lot of people can't seem to find a liking for what some consider to be like a gross out comedy. Where most jokes rely on farts or some type of disgusting gag to make us laugh. 'Dumb and Dumber' is a gross out comedy, but not the same type we see in todays films. The jokes we see and hear in this movie are actually funny, some are also completely memorable. Such as a very nasty but hilarious scene of Harry having diarrhea, its completely unneccesary and nasty, but it's one of the funniest scenes in the entire movie. A lot of the situations Harry and Lloys get thrown into are very real though, and seem to be something anybody can get into. Such as starting trouble with a guy at a restaurant, or picking up a hitchhiker.

'Dumb and Dumber' is absoulutely hilarious and unforgettable. Skip the new prequel and go right for the original, the unrated copy.
