Speaking of DiCaprio

This movie got most of its attention based on the long dyed red hair of Johnny Depp and the brilliant acting turn by DiCaprio. If it hadn't gotten that, I'm afraid it might have been lost in the shuffle and everyone would have missed a really sweet and tender movie.

It might seem odd to people. This was released before audiences were truly embracing the "Indie" flicks; those character studies where nothing really much happens, you just get to sit back and watch people and their lives. Depp is reserved and flustered most of the time, a great balance to DiCaprio who steals the movie.

Nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar, I think it got people's attention because this was a young heartthrob willing to get down and dirty. Not only does he manage to hit all of the key notes that people who have never been in contact with a retarded person, he also hits all of the smaller, more subtle markers which you would only know if you lived with and loved someone with a disability.

This movie has a great deal of heart and manages to show it to you without shoving it down your throat like some other flicks.

DiCaprio was really outstanding, like you said if you've lived with someone with disabilities you that he totally nailed it.
