Movie Review by Melanie
February 8th, 2007

I hate to admit it, but today was the first time I actually watched this movie from beginning to end. I admit this, only because when this movie came out, I was young and had no interest, what so ever, in sports. So a movie that was about a bunch of boys playing baseball, never caught my attention.

I don't know if it is because I have to boys of my own now, or that I have grown up and can appreciate more, but I love this movie. There is something to be said about innocence. On of my favorite lines is "I've been coming here every summer of my adult life", spoken by one of the boys who couldn't have been over 10.

This movie also makes me nervous of the trouble I have to look forward to. It never ceases to amaze me what a group of little boys think is ok to do. However, you've got to love them.

The last thing I will say about this movie is I appreciate the ending. Too often you will see a movie about kids, and then in the last thirty seconds, you see some adult actor look-a-likes, this movie, fortunately, doesn't do this. I like that you aren't left with the images of some adults, instead you are left with the images of the summer never forgotten.

It's a fun movie, but the ending always really bothered me, since the ages of the grown men were so off from what they should have been if the movie took place in the timeframe that it suggested when they were younger.

I loved this movie!! When it came out, I was in junior high and my friends and I saw it at the dollar theater at least 10 times.
