Movie Review by Zombie Boy
December 16th, 2007

BEWARE: There are two versions of this film kicking around video stores. One is rated R, and is a pusillanimous edit with all of the good squishy bits lying on the cutting room floor. The unrated version is intact in all of its offensive glory.

Taking its cue from part 1 (while smartly ignoring part 2), it seems that the army is still running tests on corpses with 245-Trioxin, in an attempt to create the perfect soldier: one that does not eat, sleep, or, well, die. Because they're already dead.

Enter young, disgruntled Jesse, son of one of the senior men on the project. He decides to run off with his skanky girlfriend, Julie (the gorgeous Melinda Clarke), except that a motorcycle accident puts her in possession of a brand new broken neck, and in dire need of some 245-Trioxin...which Jesse just happens to know where to get.

He brings her back but, guess what? She just ain't right. After getting into a scuffle at a convenience store, trying to find something to satisfy a curious hunger Julie now has, she finds it in the arm of an unwilling donor. Shots are fired, and Julie and Jesse just escape...except that Julie sort of eats the store owners brains a little bit.

Disgusted with herself, Julie goes down a path of self-mutilation that is bizarre and painful to behold, under the theory that the more pain she makes herself feel, the less likely she will be to try to eat Jesse's brain.

Showdowns ensue, both with the thugs from the store and of course the army at the end. More zombies get into the action and, if you have the proper cut, gore abounds and blood flows like a river.

The only one who could possibly touch Brian Yuzna in terms of trailer trash gore and sleaze was Lucio Fulci...but Fulci's dead, so long live Yuzna!

See this movie at once...but pay attention to the rating.

I must have seen the R rated version....actually I think I had one of the versions on VHS.....I remember it being rather weak....and I know that you and I have discussed this film before....what is so different about the unrated version?

It is the same difference between the US rated and US unrated Dead-Alive: gore. Without the gore, ROTLD 3 is weaker than American beer. But with the gore intact...it is marvelous :)

well I have seen the DVD of Dead Alive which I remember being pretty gory....have not seen it in a while. I just remember the acting being horrible in this and the girl getting on my nerves....Why do high ranking militants always have stupid kids in films?

I used to own the poster for this movie (it was released when I was employed as a Randal) but never got a chance to watch the movie because the store I was working at didn't order a copy of it. But the poster freaked me out, so I kept it. Until someone gave it away. Blah.
