Movie Review by Zara
November 7th, 2007

Oy, this movie was painful. It also managed to spawn one of the strangest romances in Hollywood history. At the time that this movie was made, Danson was still well-liked through his role on "Cheers" and Whoopi was still cute and somewhat sexless.

This was supposed to be the story of a young woman who discovers that her mother conceived her through a sperm bank (because that happened like - all the time with black women back in the day, whatever) and the reason why she's so light skinned is because the sperm bank screwed up and gave good ol' Whoopi some dancin' Dansons.

The comedy is horrible, that painful kind where you peek through your fingers and wonder if you're really watching what you're watching, all the time turning to the clock and hoping that it will be over soon. Neither Danson nor Whoopi were very sensual people, so having to endure them having a romantic moment is just nauseating.

It still amazes me that I remember seeing this trashterpiece in the theater. I suppose it just warped me for life. Not really a good thing.

This was bad....it is just way too unbelievable for Whoopi and Danson to be a couple. I would probably give it at least a full star because I actually have seen a lot worse. The played the race card too hard , being that yeah she is black but owning an African book store and yea he is white but he is the cowboy hat wearing Texan that couldnt be any whiter.

Something New with Sanaa Lathan and Simon Baker was done much better if you like the "white male / black female" type films.
