Movie Review by Zara
May 14th, 2007

Hmm... how many posters were made for this movie?

As the summer season is upon us, all of the parental units are going to be forced to go watch big green dudes, emo spiders, swishy pirates and surfing penguins. Now, I hate to pass judgment on anything before I see it (but I have seen SpideyEmo and you can read that review if you so choose) but my guess is that most of it is going to be the same old crap that we're told that we HAVE to take our kids to see just because the character is featured on a box of Pop Tarts.

And isn't that the problem? We've been feeding our kids crap for so long (both food and movie wise) that they just gobble it up, getting fat and lazy, losing their ability to run or use their brains for any length of time. Which is why a movie like this one is so important.

It's a great Irish tale about an alcoholic father, a dead mother, poverty and two children on the run from the law. Doesn't quite sound like family fodder, eh? Well... think again. Or at least trust me when I say that it's better for your kids than that damn Spider.

A tale of heartbreak, hope, love and finding yourself. There are uneasy questions that will get asked, like why a mother has to die or why they have no food to eat. But that's where our lazy parental asses need to actually do some parenting and talk to our children about what's going on outside of our safe little Wii and iPod worlds.

A great movie. Not only for the kids. A great movie PERIOD.

My mom never feed me crap except when we ate chitlins. Ellen Barkin is great no matter what she does. I may even put up with Ocean's 13 for her.

Well..

I was remarking that I think she looks hotter as an older actress than a younger one. The styles of the '80's didn't suit her. I feel the same way about Helen Mirren also. They're just hot older ladies.

Speaking of Barkin... ever seen SWITCH? Talk about a bizarre flick.
