Movie Review by Richard
May 31st, 2007

The highway overpass

I hated Macaulay Culkin with a passion in the early nineties. I hated the sweet family friendly crap that he was always in. His cute innocent little gestures that all of the dumb people in my school mimicked, out of lack of originality.

This movie was so unexpected for me. I watched it in a cramped little theater, forced to go to it by a girlfriend at the time, who I didn't really like. She loved those sappy crappy movies with "good family values" and whatnot. I was mortified that she talked me into watching this movie.

When we left the theater, I was flabbergasted. I could not believe I had liked this movie so much. That Culkin could actually do something other than be a cure little bastard. I've respected his acting since because of this.

Also, the thought of that last scene. What would you do. Your own child. Evil. Murderer. But still your child. Would you let the innocent child go before him? It means something different to me now, as a parent.

That's a really good point that you have. I haven't watched this since becoming a parent. So many movies are different after you have kids. Ransom, for example, is completely different now.

Personally, I didn't care for it. It does rank in the pantheon of bad movies that I could at least laugh at, like FEAR.
