I love when Sandra Bullock dies

Every time you turn on the television, there's some news story about a murder most foul. The circumstances for how it all went down are a mystery and there's usually some teary-eyed husband, father, mother or child talking about their loved one. Pleading with the murderer or kidnapper. Wanting to know the hows and whys of their family member's untimely demise. The hunger shines behind their tears. Not knowing is killing them inside.

Such is the story behind THE VANISHING. Sutherland's character gets into an argument with his girlfriend and turns around for a second after they patch things up, only to discover that she's vanished. Over the course of the following 3 years he searches for her. Not knowing if she is alive or dead, he becomes more and more obsessed with the why and the how. He meets a new woman and puts on a charade that he has put his tragic past behind him, but his hunger is eating him away inside.

The movie has its cliche moments and plays out over-dramatically at times. It is the disturbed turn as the kidnapper by Jeff Bridges and the intense portrayal of the new girlfriend by Nancy Travis that glues the story together. While many bill this as a romance, it contains so many different elements that there is something in it for every movie fan to enjoy. In the end, after you know the circumstances of girlfriend number one's demise, you will feel as sated as the main character.

I gotta say that without a doubt Jeff Bridges again saves another flick. Not to take anything away from Keifer who really gets me to believe his desperation...but Bridges somehow manages to steal the thunder.Yea it gets a lil over cooked in places but then again that can be said for a lot a flicks.I agree that overall it's a really likeable pic...and yea the ending's a burner.
