Jump out of that cake again and again!
Favorite Movie Quote: "Let this be a learning experience, gentleman. If you resist we will kill you and the man next to you. Now move out of here in an orderly fashion."
Under Siege is my favorite film that Steven Seagal was involved with. I remember seeing this film about a year after it came out and as a 13 year old teenager I thought it was a great action film. Even today (I just watched it tonight on HBO) it still holds up as a highly entertaining film.
The cast was really a fun ride...with Tommy Lee Jones playing William Strannix, a deranged killer set on taking over the world and his sidekick the wacky Gary Busey. This was an earlier Tommy Lee Jones that was not nearly as well known as he is today but he plays an excellent bad guy and sold the character remarkably well.
Steven Seagal has done some really crappy films especially in the past 10 years but when he had his moment of "A" list films they were great actions pieces. I think that Under Siege was unique in a way because it does take place on a battleship which the entire film is set on. It takes all the stuff that action films are made of such as machine guns, nuclear weapons, martial arts, a deadly bad guy, a skilled hero and of course some nice boobies...and mixes these elements perfectly. The script has some great dialogue and one liners as well that just adds a little spice to the mix.
Is this an Oscar winner? No... but it did manage to set a record at the time of its release for the highest grossing film ever NOT screened by movie critics prior to its release date.
They blew it with a horrible sequel that should have not been made but if you just pretend that the sequel was not made then Under Siege will still remain respectable as a great action film that you can watch over and over again.
