Movie Review by Zara

Like a Virgin

I've watched RESERVOIR DOGS at least 100 times over the course of the last 15 years. I've most likely watched it even more than that.

Enraptured with the pace of the film, delighted with the lost treasures that the soundtrack uses and more or less obsessed with the pop culture references that polka dot their way through the script, it was with Quentin's first movie that he automatically hooked me.

A diamond heist. Simple enough story. A diamond heist gone horribly wrong. OK, that's been done. A diamond heist in which the key players have been infiltrated by a cop. Done to death.

Yet the brillance lies in the fact that the script is unrelenting. The story jumps in its timeline in what has now become known as Tarantino's signature and oft-replicated style. The cop isn't the last man standing. Hell, there's still the argument that someone should have been left standing. (Don't argue with me on this. A true answer about this question is as ellusive as an answer to what was in the briefcase.)

Steve Buscemi came to fame through this movie, playing the notable Mr Pink. And the song "Stuck in the Middle with You," will never have the same meaning for those people who have watched this movie.

It's a classic. Pure American perfection. If you don't like violence then you'll most likely not appreciate this film. Yet I love the statement that Tarantino has made about cinematic violence: It's f*cking fake, people. You can watch the news about heads being blown off in car bombs but suddenly you're offended over a little fake movie blood?

Or some gasoline... and a missing ear...
