Movie Review by Melanie
February 10th, 2007

When this movie came out, I was in the second grade. I remember begging my mom to let me stay up and watch it. Much to her reluctance, I finally broke her down. I loved it. I was just a little girl, but I fell in love with Christian Bale that night.

I have since grown up and I don't see the movie in the same way, but I still appreicate it. Movies like this are in short supply. This is a movie that whole families can enjoy. It takes a very important historical event and tells it in a way that children can understand and appreciate it.

They may be cheesy, but I still love the songs. If you have ever seen this movie, you have to admit, that they have a way of sticking in your head. In my opinion, this is the sign of a good writer. I am still amazed at the dancing in this movie. I don't think I have ever seen so many good guy dancers in one place before or since.

This is definately a must see for anyone with kids.

You know, I couldn't get into this movie when I was younger. I've watched it since and still don't understand its appeal. I put it in the same category as SWING KIDS, another one of those movies which is quietly held in high regard by a fervent group of fans.

I just don't get it I guess.

I have always loved Musical Theatre, so movies like this have always been right up my alley. I've never seen Swing Kids, so I don't know what you mean.

Oh, I enjoy musicals quite a bit. I consider SEVEN BRIDES FOR SEVEN BROTHERS to be one of the best films made, regardless of category. But as times have gone on, maybe because the audiences are changing, musicals made in more recent years just haven't had the same ring to them for me.

I am funny with my taste in musicals. I enjoy a lot of the earlier musicals, and I love the newer shows that are coming out. I never got into the middle that much. I actually pursued musical theatre until I became a mother. I just can't do the starving artist thing with my kids. I find that the post Rent musicals have been much more real than their predicessors.

I love Newsies. I saw it in the theaters when I was in elementary school and loved it, and I still love it. The songs are great!!
