Movie Review by Jessica Film Junkie

Davis Hogs The Screen

What if the guy who saved your life was a low-life con artist thief? What if his story got stolen by the kind of guy a country could deify? Who would you chose to worship, the guy who actually saved you or the guy who says all the right things?

Dustin Hoffman has a lot of fun as the jackass con artist trying to get the money and influence he deserves despite everyone loving the guy (Andy Garcia) who stole his story. Garcia is great as the conflicted false hero. Unfortunately Geena Davis takes up most of the screen time as a reporter learning to have a heart who falls for Garcia's charms.

This movie is predictable and if it had stayed with the dualing lives of Garcia and Hoffman instead of Davis it might actually be a pretty entertaining flick. Instead it gets smarmy and glamourized.

All in all an interesting look at America's obsession with heroes, but not a great movie.
