Weez-a-licious!

Some lesser known facts about one of the most beloved goof-ball movie from the '90's:

Brendan Fraser at a not too intense 6'3" was actually too big for the clothing that the costume designer had originally purchased. In order to have the appearance that the film makers wanted - baggy clothes - she had to specially make all of his outfits.

Pauly Shore, so loveable as Stoney, was considered for the part of Link before the producers met Fraser and decided he was better suited for the part. However, they were still so fond of Shore that they created the role of Stoney especially for him. Many of his lines are completely ad-libbed because they had never been written into the script.

The scene where Fraser is getting cleaned up and is popping bath beads into his mouth, those are really bath beads. He had a spit bucket near by to spit them into after each take. The scene where he makes a goober face is one of the shots where a bath bead actually exploded in his mouth.

This was the debut film performance for Rose McGowan, who has a small role where she drools over the new student, Fraser.

Why do I know all of this sh*t about this movie? Because I adore it. It was on heavy rotation when I worked for a video store back when I was a young'un and I would whistle along when they danced to Suicidal Tendencies, putting away tapes faster and in a better mood.

The movie is silly, sure, but it's also a fun and warm-hearted classic where we get to benefit from the great acting skill that Sean Astin possesses. Astin is completely underrated and taken for granted as an actor. I wish more people would realize that the easier it looks like it is for the actor to do, the better damn job that they're doing at acting.

I used to watch this movie over and over when I was a kid, but in the UK it was called "California Man", it also debut's Robin Tunney.
