I Dont Think I Have Ever Seen This Much Gore

In the times of stupid slasher and zombie films which are drenched in gore, none really stand out as much as Dead Alive has. Peter Jackson, who has, after Braindead, directed the LOTR series and King Kong, has really changed from this movie. While the film is ultra cheap and low budget, it succeds in terms of gross out scenes, campy humor and an all around crazy ass time.

Dead Alive is a spoof of tons of zombie movies. Lionel Cosgrove (Timothy Balme) is a mamas boy. His mother is constantly following him around, watching his every move, always wanting his attention in her direction. After he meets a beautiful girl, he takes her to the zoo one day. While his mother is spying, she gets bit by a scary and funny looking monkey, I think it was a monkey. Well, she gets really sick, unfortunately leading to her death, but shes not the only one dying. Other people are getting sick and dying, but they just dont stay dead. They rise and must feed on meat. Ah, havent heard that before.

The gore in this film is completely out of control and is literally, everywhere. Ever part of a person that you can rip in half, bite or tear apart, is done in this movie. While there are completely graphic moments of this extreme violence, its so funny and well done. While the blood just sprays and splatters around the screen, I just wanted to laugh. There are also some makeup effects which were completely hilarious and scary. (The baby for example).

Bottom Line: A must see for die hard horror fans
